| LEIGHTON OCEANSIDE PARKLANDS
The creation of the Leighton Oceanside Parklands site from the land formerly known as the Leighton Marshalling Yards required the design of a Master Plan being largely informed by public opinions through a comprehensive community consultation program. The development of the Master Plan will provide the public of Western Australia with a significant new beachside parkland area and tourist attraction.
The key design outcomes from the community consultation, as incorporated in the Master Plan include:
| |
Extend and integrate pedestrian links between Stirling Highway, Vlamingh Parklands and the train stations; |
| |
Rationalise car parking and vehicular access; |
| |
Provide cyclist access throughout the length and breadth of the site; |
| |
Control beach access through well-defined paths to minimise dune erosion; |
| |
Rehabilitate/revegetate the heavily degraded site using coastal species; |
| |
Minimise the use of turf to minimise groundwater use for irrigation; |
| |
Focus recreational facilities and commercial activities around the northern and southern development nodes; and |
| |
Identify the funding program required to implement the Master Plan. |
