When the Gunyulgup Galleries proprietors were first contemplating relocating their premises they approached Blackwell & Associates to assist them in the development of the new gallery and restaurant complex.

The landscape was designed to set the tone for the art exhibited as well as highlighting some of the more characteristic plant species and materials found in the Margaret River area.

The buildings were designed to cantilever out over the lake and thus be highly visible from the main entry road. The most important site planning consideration, in addressing the arrival experience, was thus to ensure that the sizable car park required for the gallery and restaurant did not dominate the landscape.
