LEIGHTON BEACH REDEVELOPMENT

The Leighton Regional Planning Guidelines, as endorsed by the WA Government, identified a 4 hectare area at the southern end of the 17 hectare Leighton Marshalling Yard site as being appropriate for redevelopment for commercial and residential purposes.

Blackwell & Associates were invited to tender for the design of the landscape architectural component of this portion of the greater Marshalling Yards for a medium density housing and commercial redevelopment. The aim was to formulate a plan that provided strong links to the existing train station at North Fremantle whilst also catering for the existing and perceived recreational and commercial needs of both the existing and future community. The project has been run with a strong focus on sustainable development since its inception and is designed to seamlessly integrate with the Leighton Oceanside Parkland development.

The development of the Leighton 4 hectare site will provide the public of Western Australia with a significant new beachside destination adjacent to extensive parkland areas with better access to one of Perth’s most popular beaches.
